Brazilian players console heartbroken Colombian star

Colombia’s James Rodriguez had an incredible World Cup, scoring six goals in five games including his team’s only goal in its loss against Brazil. So when his team couldn’t fight back enough to get over a two-goal deficit, it’s not surprising he was completely heartbroken — it’s the World Cup after all and he seemed to give it his all.

But as he walked off the field, seemingly inconsolable, some of the Brazilian players and even the coach noticed and took a moment to try to comfort him.

One of the worst parts of the World Cup — of any major sporting event really — is the look on the players’ faces when their team falls. Regardless of how elated the Brazilians are to be going on, it was amazing to see them remember the players whose hearts just got broken in what was a hard-fought match.
